Blanche (Damratowski) Ellsworth

Blanche Ellsworth, 90 of Loup City, NE died Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at Rose Lane Home in Loup City.  Spiritual Celebration of Life services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City with Reverend Jim Koontz and Janelle Mostek officiating. A dinner location will be announced at the service. Private family burial will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association or donor’s choice.

     Blanche (Damratowski) Ellsworth was born June 14, 1926 at Loup City, NE to Frank and Veronica (Baker) Damratowski. After graduating high school she worked at the Ordinance Plant in Hastings, NE. During her employment, one of the bomb lines exploded resulting in several deaths. Fortunately, Blanche was not injured however, she suffered from PTSD for many years. Later she moved to Lincoln and married Roger Ellsworth, a musician in the Lincoln area. Blanche worked in the food service industry for many years, including the Italian Village, Elks club, Tony & Luigi’s and The Big Tomato. She loved to work outside with her beautiful roses; was an avid reader and especially loved to embroidery and quilt. She made 20 beautiful quilts which she presented to members of her family. The quilts are truly works of art as she made each stitch with precision. After her husband passed away, she managed two duplexes in Lincoln while living in one unit. Blanche was always an adventuresome lady, traveling much of the United States, Canada and Alaska, and many countries abroad including Egypt, Czech Republic, East Africa (Kenya and Tanzania), Russia, Estonia, Morocco, Hawaii, Greece, England, Turkey , Israel and Poland. During her life and through her extensive travels she made many lifelong loyal friends whom she continued to communicate with until her passing.

     Those left to cherish her memory include her sisters, Maxine and husband, Harold Skarka of Grand Island, NE; Mary Ellen Damratowski of Loup City; Aunt, Esther Baker of Loup City; sisters-in-law, Vivian Damratowski of Loup City and Betty Damratowski of Grand Island, NE and many nieces/nephews, great nieces/nephews, cousins and too many friends to mention. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger, parents, Frank and Veronica Damratowski; two brothers, Casey and Harold Damratowski
