August 16, 1939 ~ May 13, 2017 (age 77) 77 Years Old


     Carl M. Merritt, 77 of Ord, NE formerly of Loup City, NE died Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Ord. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church in Loup City with Richard Piontkowski officiating. A light lunch will follow mass. Burial will be held at the Arcadia City Cemetery in Arcadia, NE with military honors by the Arcadia American Legion Post #251. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, May 15 at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Merritt family or donor’s choice.

     Carl Martin Merritt was born August 16, 1939 at Lincoln, NE to George Melvin and Vera May (King) Merritt. He grew up and attended school in Arcadia, NE. On January 9, 1961 he married Louise Antoinette Rawley at San Diego, CA. They had six children.  He entered the Navy in 1958 and was discharged in 1962. They lived in Ashton, Loup City and Ord along with various other communities. He was a member of St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed fishing, rock collecting, jewelry making, home improvement and carpentry.

     He is survived by his son, Steven Merritt of Aloha, OR; daughters, Teresa Merritt of Seaside, OR; Katherine and husband, Greg Naber of Waco, NE; Victoria and husband, Leonard Landers of Loup City, NE; Carla and husband, Jack Crockett of Hernando, MS; son, Mark and wife, Lori Merritt of Grand Island, NE; twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren and brother, Larry Merritt.

     He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Vera; wife, Louise; brothers, Glen, Bruce, Earl, Gordon and Virgil Merritt and sister, Velda Fleider.
