Dorothy L. Landon, 92 of Loup City, NE died Thursday, July 02, 2015 at Rose Lane Home in Loup City. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at the Loup City Community Building with Reverend Delmar Unruh officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 6 at Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City. Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church or donor’s choice.
Miss Landon was born February 13, 1923 on the family farm in Sherman County near Arcadia, NE to Leslie and Pearl (Leininger) Landon. She graduated from Arcadia High School in 1941 and began her teaching career in 1942. She taught in rural schools in Sherman County and Rockville until 1960 when she was asked to teach elementary grades in Ord. Dorothy received her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln in 1961 at the same time as her three sisters, Erma, Alta and Florence. She retired from teaching in 1985. Dorothy was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Loup City for over 50 years serving in numerous capacities. When her health failed she eventually moved to Rose Lane Home in Loup City.
Dorothy is survived by her brother, Don and wife, Bette Landon of Arcadia, NE and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her three sisters, Erma, Alta and Florence Landon.
