Eugene “Gene” Spotanski, 85 of Loup City died Friday, June 24, 2016 at his home in Loup City, NE.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church in Loup City with Father Martin Egging officiating. Burial will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery at Loup City with military honors by the Ashton American Legion Post #108.  Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, June 27 at St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church with a Vigil Service to be held at 7:00 p.m. at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Spotanski family or donor’s choice.

Eugene C. Spotanski was born August 28, 1930 at Ashton, NE to John and Martha (Larchick) Spotanski. He grew up on the family farm in rural Ashton, and attended school at Rural School District 56.  He was drafted to serve during the Korean War in the U.S. Army in November 1952 and was Honorable discharged in October 1954. He was united in marriage to Marjorie Glinsmann Magner on May 3, 1975 at Paplin NE.  He spent his life farming, working for John Janulewicz Sr Construction, Central Nebraska Community Services, G & G Manufacturing and Loup City Commission Company.  He was a member of the St Josaphat’s Catholic Church and the American Legion Post #108 of Ashton NE.

Gene was a supportive husband, dad, and grandpa.  He enjoyed spending time with family.  He found value in hard work, loving others, and had a special way to make people laugh with his very sharp sense of humor.  It was common to have a conversation with Gene and  hear him say “Honest to God”.  Some of his hobbies were Sunday fishing with his four brothers and dad, playing pinochle with family and friends, and dancing with his wife, Marj.  He also liked to played scratch cards, horseshoes, cook, and listen to polka music.  He was also an avid Husker football critic.  If a family member, friend or neighbor needed help with cattle, farming or anything, Gene was always there to lend a helping hand.

 He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; two sons, Cory Spotanski and wife Michelle of Cozad NE, Calvin Magner and wife Virginia of Litchfield NE; two daughters, Tami Coffin and husband Marty of Loup City NE, Tricia Kuszak of Loup City NE; brothers and sisters-in-laws, Harry and Kathy Spotanski and Alozy and Darlene Spotanski both of Loup City NE; sisters and brothers-in-law Alice and Alvin Kwiatkowski of Litchfield NE and Virgie and Merlin McRoberts of Omaha NE; ten Grandchildren and one Great Grandchild.  He was preceded in death by his parents John and Martha Spotanski; mother and father-in-law Edgar and Wilma Glinsmann; brothers Hubert Spotanski and Albin Spotanski; brother and sister-in-law Calvin and Pat Einspahr; sisters and brother-in-law Nellie and Isadore  Schachta and Emily and Leonard Lewandowsk; Grandchild, Kyli Coffin.
