Frank W. Wanitschke, 94 of Grand Island, NE formerly of Litchfield, NE died Monday, March 20, 2017 at Tiffany Square Care Center in Grand Island, NE. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City with Reverend Jim Koontz officiating. Burial will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City with military honors by the Loup City American Legion Post #48. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 24 at Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City. Memorials are suggested to the Wanitschke family or donor’s choice. Frank W. Wanitschke was born October 3, 1922 near Anselmo, NE to Joe and Dorothy (Karnes) Wanitschke. He attended country school to the 11th grade in Custer County. He served his country in WWII in the Army from January, 1943 to December, 1945. He was Private First Class of the 555th Quartermaster Railhead Company. He was an MP in England and later received the Presidential Unit Citation in France. He farmed with his brother, Hubert north of Loup City at the Daily Farm and then moved to a family farm south of town in 1978. They farmed there till retiring in 2004. He was an avid Cornhusker Fan; loved farming and caring for his animals, especially Sparky his Red Healer. He was a lifelong member of the American Legion and VFW.
Survivors include his sister, Virginia Bohl from Litchfield, NE; sisters-in-law, Irma Wanitschke of Derby, KS; Donna Wanitschke of Grand Island, NE; brothers-in-law, Paul Robison of Broken Bow, NE; Roy Cadwalader of Grand Island, NE and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; older brother, Hubert Wanitschke; younger brothers, Charles and George Wanitschke and younger sisters, Mary Cadawalader and Anna Marie Robison
