Chester "Chet" Lonowski Obituary

Chester “Chet” Lonowski, 98 of Ord formerly of Loup City, NE died Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at Rose Lane Home in Loup City. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church in Loup City. Father Richard Piontkowski will celebrate the mass. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 26 at St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church with a Knights of Columbus Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church or Loup City EMT’s.

Chet was born January 11th, 1926, in Viking, Alberta Canada to Leo and Rosalia (Greenwalt) Lonowski. On Sept. 9, 1947, he married Lorretta Woitaszewski in Loup City. They started farming in the Loup City area. In 1960, they settled on a farm between Loup City and Arcadia along the Middle Loup River where they raised their family. He continued to drive out to help farm on this land until he was 93 years old. Family members continue to farm this land today. Chet was a longtime member of St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church in Loup City and was a member of their Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed visiting with family and could always be found playing cards after any family meal. For the last 5 years of his life, Chet lived an active life at Grandview Assisted Living in Ord, NE. He was a good friend to all and really enjoyed playing cards with the other residents, getting visits from family, and walking outside to look at the clouds and airplanes. One of his favorite activities though was having family take him for rides in the country and listening to him reminisce about farming. He even got to ride in a combine again when he was 95 and had a smile from ear to ear.

Survivors include sons, Frank (Karen), Duane, and Ed, all of Loup City, and Tim (Rosie) of Johnson Lake; daughters Jean (Ken) Kowalski of Loup City, Carol (Mark) Peters of Grand Island and Arlene (Mike) Mazankowski of Columbus; 20 grandchildren, and many great-(great)-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife: son, Tony; daughter, Paulette; sisters, Evelyn Gappa and Lorraine Zelewski; brothers, Lawrence and Floyd Lonowski.
