Harold Griffiths, 90 of Loup City, NE died Thursday, January 11, 2024 at CHI Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, NE. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 18, 2024 at the United Methodist Church in Loup City, NE with Reverend Spenser Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 17 at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Loup City United Methodist Church, Loup City EMT’s, Ag Society or donor’s choice. The funeral will be livestreamed on the Higgins Funeral Home, Loup City Facebook page. Harold R. Griffiths was born June 27, 1933 at Dickens, Nebraska to Lesley L. and Vera Marie (Reed) Griffiths. Harold grew up and attended school in Lincoln County through 8th grade. He graduated from Curtis High School in 1951. He entered the Army in September, 1953 and was honorably discharged on September, 1955. He married Alberta DeWolf on January 13, 1956 at Scottsbluff, NE. They raised cattle in the Dickens/North Platte area until 1964 when they moved to Loup City, NE. They settled on a farm west of Loup City. Alberta passed in the spring of 2002. Harold loved being on the farm raising cattle and crops. In September, 2003 he married Shirley DeWolf and they moved in to Loup City. Shirley passed away in August, 2020. Harold enjoyed playing cards, puzzles and playing tricks on people. He was a regular at the Loup City Diner in the mornings for coffee and discussion.
Harold is survived by his son, Delbert (Terri Roberts) of Broken Bow, NE; daughter, Debora (Tom) Smedra of Mason City, NE; 9 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter; sister, Edith Ekdahl of Venango, NE and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wives, Alberta & Shirley; son, Dennis; brothers, Eugene and LeRoy and sisters, Myrtle, Emma Jane, Rosmary and Phyllis.
