Dennis Welty

August 9, 1950 ~ September 18, 2017 (age 67) 67 Years Old


     Dennis Welty, 67 of Loup City, NE died Monday, September 18, 2017 at his home in Loup City. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 25, 2017 at the United Methodist Church in Loup City with Reverend Jim Koontz officiating. Burial will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, September 24 at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Welty family or donor’s choice.

     Dennis Welty was born August 9th, 1950 in Loup City, NE to Everett and Roberta (Jessup) Welty. He grew up and attended school in Loup City. While in high school he played football, basketball and ran track. Dennis graduated from Loup City High school in 1968.  He attended the University of Nebraska and graduated in 1972 with an Electrical Engineering degree. He worked most of his career for Motorola in Mesa, AZ. While there he invented many patents. Dennis retired in 2004 and moved backed to Loup City, NE.

     After moving back to Loup City Dennis was very active in the Sherman County Historical Society and was President of the Sherman County Arts Council. He was known for his kindness and generosity and willingness to take on any projects needed for the organizations he served. He spent much time researching the Welty family genealogy as well as helping others to research theirs. Running and playing tennis were two of his many pastimes. He was excited that he got to participate in the New York City Marathon. Dennis was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church.

     He is survived by his sisters, Linda (Gary) Hornick of Sequim, WA, Marianne (Bob) Von Behren of Wildwood, MO; niece and nephews, Julie (Aaron ) Lagemann of Omaha, NE, Jill (Todd) Stover of Omaha, NE, Jon (Robyn) Larson of St. Charles, MO, Stefanie (Jeff) Ricker of Apple Valley, CA, Heather (Nick) Siedschlag of Omaha, NE, Tessa (John) McConkey Bloomington, IL, Brittney (Ryan) Dailey of Grover, MO and many Great nephews and nieces.

      He was preceded in death by his mother, Roberta Welty; father, Everett Welty; brother, Gerald Welty; sister, Margaret Larson; and brother in law, Ted Larson.
