Edward (E.J.) McCarville, 97 of Loup City, NE died Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at Rose Lane Home in Loup City. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 2, 2018 at St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church. Celebrating the Mass will be Father Richard Piontkowski. Military honors will be provided by the Loup City American Legion Post #48. Cremation will follow the service with burial to be held at a later date at the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, April 1 at St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church with a Rosary to be held at 7:00 p.m. at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Loup City American Legion Post #48 or donor’s choice.
Edward J. McCarville was born at May 12, 1920 at Loup City, NE to John and Nora (Augustyn) McCarville. He married Clara Placzek in Aransas Pass, Texas. They shared more than 65 years of marriage. He was in the Coast Guard during World War II aboard the USS Brunswick. He spent most of his time stationed on the east coast but, had also been to Africa on three separate occasions. After his time in the service, he came back to the Davis Creek area to farm and raise a family. When he retired in 1990, he and Clara moved to Loup City. He was an active member of the VFW and Loup City American Legion Post #48. E.J. was a social person and enjoyed time with friends, shooting pool, playing cards and attending Tuesday night bingo. He was a member of St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and Loup City American Legion Post #48.
He is survived by his children, Denise Griffith of Overton, Nebraska; Joe McCarville of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; Tony McCarville of rural North Loup, Nebraska; Marge Kershner of Minden, Nebraska and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; wife and two sons, Jim and Mark.
