Evelyn L. Gallaway Tucker was born December 21, 1919 at Farnum, NE to Helmuth and Caroline (Schlender) Brandenburg.  She attended grade school at Ohmes Country School and Arcadia High School through the eleventh grade.  On May 23, 1936 she married John Gallaway at the United Methodist Church in Loup City.  They farmed 11 miles northwest of Loup City until 1966 when they moved to Loup City.  At that time she became employed at Farnham Rexall Drug Store.  Prior to that she worked at the Loup City Commission Company where sale of livestock was computed without the aid of calculators.

John died in 1981.  She married Vene Tucker in 1986 at the United Methodist Church.  Vene died in 1998.

She was a charter member of the Loup City Saddle Club and Happy Circle Extension Club.  Evelyn sewed many clothes for her grandchildren. She also patched many pairs of jeans.  She taught herself how to crochet and as a result her children and grandchildren received an afghan.  Never one to waste anything she used all the material remnants and made numerous patchwork quilts.  She frequented the Senior Center and helped deliver meals to the homebound.

Many of her hobbies were horseback riding, fishing, gardening, baking, playing pool and playing cards.  In her later years she became an avid reader of books.  Keeping her supplied with books from the library was a challenge, but an employee of Rose Lane came to the rescue and kept a constant supply of books for her.

She often took the grandchildren fishing.  One episode that they remember and talk about is when “Gramie” fell off of the log in the pasture and had a surprise landing.  The grandchildren fondly remember all the family picnics where the afternoon was spent playing ball with Gramie leading the charge “Play Ball”. At every Christmas the grandkids remember the grab basket of gifts bearing such items as shampoo, toothpaste, T paper or soap tied to a red string.

Evelyn spent many hours helping out when her grandchildren were small.  Often times she would show up at their homes to do laundry, housecleaning and whatever needed to be done.  Her son Marvin often referred to her as the “White Tornado”.  Her only reward would be to have her favorite, a piece of chocolate pie.

She is survived by her children, son Darwin Gallaway and his wife Jo Fratessa and children Daryn and Bryanna and Trisha Gallaway, daughter Donna and her husband Dennis Krolikowski and their children, Debbra  Krolikowski, John and  Kim Krolikowski, Diane and Jerry Johnson, Mitch and Joyce Krolikowski, Pam Krolikowski , Peggy and Tyrone Yelling and Marcy and Emily Krolikowski and daughter Ella Francke, daughter-in-law Annette Gallaway and her children Roger Gallaway, Ann and Roger Heil, Wayne and Nancy Gallaway, Alan Gallaway, Amy and Joe Hostetler.  Step Children Gregory Fratessa, Robyn Fratessa  and Dan Howells-Schafroth, Lindsey and Mike Lang.  Step children, Janet Tenski, Bonnie Harrington, Jackie Nichols, Lloyd and Jerry Tucker.  Step grandchildren Titus & Maranda Adams, Jerry & Beth Adams; Emily, Aidan, Mekayla, Lilly Garcia, Maya and Marley Lang.  Great grandchildren Molly and Samantha Krolikowski, Ahmad & Krystle Johnson,  Jelani, Jamilah, Kaliq Johnson, Madeline and Keith Krolikowski, Jaden Krolikowski, Trey, Hannah and Cassandra Yelling, Stephanie Gallaway, John and Heather Gallaway, Rachael Gallaway, Holly and Hanna Heil, Jamie and A.J.
