Rosemary “Rosie” Lewandowski, 92 of Loup City, NE died Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at Tiffany Square Care Center in Grand Island, NE. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 7, 2017 at St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church in Loup City with Father Richard Piontkowski celebrating the mass. Burial will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 6 at the church with a Vigil Service to be held at 7:00 p.m. at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Lewandowski family for later designation or donor’s choice.
Rosemary was born in Loup City on June 2, 1925, to Henry and Agatha (Tyma) Peters. She attended school in Loup City. She married Alfred (Bud) Maiefski in August 1947. He passed away in January 1967. Her and Alfred lived in Ashton. To this union 5 children were born, Marge, Sue, Tim, Tammy, and Shelly. Rosemary was a housewife, worked at her daughter’s dress shop and ran an in home daycare for 22 years.
She married Al Lewandowski in 1968. He passed away January 1976.
She was a member of St Josaphat's Catholic Church, American Legion Auxillary for 60 years, Loup City Golf Course and founder of the Loup City Band Boosters. She enjoyed Husker football, volleyball, enjoyed golfing, walking, and attending various church groups.
Survivors include her children Marge (Ervan) Dzingle of Loup City, Sue (Cindy) Maiefski of Mesa AZ, Tim of Broken Bow, Tam (Mark) Smedra and Shelly (Opie) Jurey all of Kearney, Don (Mary Ann) Lewandowski of Ashton and special mom to Mike (Joyce) Gregg of Kearney. Grand Children Amy (Jason) Niemoth, Tanya (Brian) Kuszak, Todd (Genesa) Dzingle all of Hastings, Ryan (Renae) Lewandowski of Dannebrog, Scott (Taya) Smedra of Kearney, Michael Smedra of Hastings, Jeremy (Ashley) Jurey of Waverly, and Tiffanie (Jordan) Daake of Gretna. And 22 great grandchildren. Sister Jean Ignowski of Wichita KS, sister in law Carla Peters of St. Paul.
Rosemary was preceded in death by her husbands; parents; infant son, Mark; brothers, Reynold and Hank; sister Carla Ann; great grandson, Dylan and beloved pet, Cletus.
