Beulah Kingston, 87 of Arcadia, NE died Thursday, November 11, 2010 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, NE. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 20, 2010 at the Gathering Place (formerly the Congregational Church) in Arcadia, NE with Reverend Bob Wine officiating. Burial will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City, NE. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 19, 2010 at Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City. Memorials are suggested to the Arcadia Fire Department, Arcadia Rescue Squad, Arcadia American Legion Club or the Dr. R. Ken Force' Arcadia School Science Fund.
Beulah Eva Evelyn (Nelson) Kingston was born July 29, 1923 north of Arcadia, NE to Anton and Delila (Stone) Nelson. The family moved to Arcadia in 1929. Beulah attended Dunham Rural School and graduated from Arcadia High School in 1940. She attended Hastings College for a year and then worked in the Omaha Bomber Plant prior to and during part of WW II. On March 12, 1954 she married Delivan “Red” Kingston, who helped raise her two children from a previous marriage. She was very active helping Delivan on the farm and lived there most of her entire life. For the past year and a half she resided at Mother Hull Nursing Home in Kearney.
She was a member of the Congregational Church and Ladies Aid Society and was the historian after the church closed and became the Gathering Place Community Center. She was a member of the Busy Homemaker’s Extension Club and a lifetime member of the Ladies Legion Auxiliary, Eastern Star, and was an Election Board worker and a 4-H leader. She participated in the Thursday Morning Coffee club and the Arcadia Flower and Garden Shows. She and Delivan bowled in local bowling leagues. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She was an active farmer’s wife and enjoyed being outdoors, both in farm work and as an avid gardener, having a special interest in roses, butterflies and feeding birds. She enjoyed a great variety of crafts, embroidery and created many quilts for family members and for donations.
Survivors include her daughter, Barbara (Force') Schanbacher and her husband, Mark of Kearney, NE; grandchildren, David Schanbacher and his wife, Jenna of Omaha, NE; Jonathan Schanbacher currently of Taiwan; Ann (Schanbacher) Hamel and her husband, Colin of California; Michele (Force') Lopes and her husband, Michael of Tennessee; Jeremy Force' and his wife, Jenny of Massachusetts; daughter-in-law, Roni Meyer-Force' of Rhode Island; great granddaughters, Cassidy and Kaitlyn Lopes; niece, Carole (Smith) Shuck and her husband, Jerry of Edgar, NE and several other nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Dr. Ken Force'; infant brother, Dale and sister, Viola Smith.
