Billy B. Day 86, of Loup City, NE died Monday, December 30, 2013 at St. John’s Good Samaritan Society in Kearney, NE. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 3, 2013 at St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church in Loup City with J.H. Schroeder, Doug DeNeui and Darrell Holzinger officiating. Burial will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City with military honors by the Loup City American Legion Post #48. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 2, 2013 at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Grace Bible Church, Homeward Trails Bible Camp, Sherman County Foundation or Donor’s choice.
Billy B. Day was born March 12, 1927 at rural Miller, NE to Glen R. and Alice Cecil (Boyd) Day. Later he moved to Custer County where he spent his childhood. On February 6, 1951 he married LaVonne M. Brundige at Rockville, NE. They lived in Rockville for almost a year while working at the Grand Island Ordinance Plant. She got ill and they moved to Omaha for a year while she was in the University Hospital. They moved to the Day Family Farm in 1953 by Miller, NE. In 1961 they moved to Loup City and bought into the Loup City Commission Company and became sole owners of the Loup City Commission Company in 1963. They owned and operated it until 1980 when they with nine other stockholders built the new sale barn two miles west of Loup City. In 1982 they moved to Omaha for a while as LaVonne was ill. He did order buying dairy cattle and Dairy Auction. In November of 1999 Billy and his children bought the Loup City Commission Company again. Billy moved to Well Life Assisted Living then to St. Johns Nursing Home when he needed more care. Billy was a member, Deacon and Sunday School Teacher at Grace Bible Church in Loup City.
Survivors include his children, Dennis and Rhonda Day of Grand Island, NE; Dacia and Jim Dzingle, Daniel and Susan Day and Douglas and Sharon Day all of Loup City and Doran Newberry of Kearney; 14 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; sister, Glenola Kleckner of Kearney, NE and brother, Donald Day of Omaha, NE. He was preceded in death by his wife, LaVonne; his parents; great grandson, Bradley Milbourn; brother, Bobby; brother-in-law, Weldon Kleckner; sisters-in-law, Connie Brundige, Verla Owings and Patricia Day; and LaVonne’s parents, Dwight and Violet Brundige.
