Dennis L. Waggoner, 74 of Central City, NE died Monday, April 16, 2012 at the Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital in Central City. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 20, 2012 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Central City with Monsignor Nelson Newman officiating. Burial will be held at the Central City Cemetery with military honors by the Lone Tree American Legion Post #6. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 19, 2012 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with a Vigil Service held at 7:00 p.m. at the church. Memorials are suggested to the St. Michael’s Catholic Church, American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association.
Dennis L. Waggoner was born May 1, 1937 at Clarks, NE to Harvey and Eddra (Campbell) Waggoner. He grew up and attended school in Clarks, NE and later moved with the family to a farm near Central City, NE and graduated from Central City High School in 1955. He served in the National Guard from March, 1955 through October, 1963.
He married Jean Curtis on October 26, 1963 at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Grand Island, NE. They farmed south west of Central City. He also worked security for Atlantic Homes and in 1992 he worked for the Merrick County Roads department until his health forced him to retire in 2003. Dennis loved his grandchildren and visiting and playing cards with family and friends. He also loved old western movies, books and spending time at the coffee shop. Dennis was an active member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Central City.
He is survived by his wife, Jean of Central City, NE; sons and daughter-in-law, Dennis R. Waggoner of Omaha, NE and John and Jami Waggoner of Leawood, KS; daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Tracy Schnacker of Topeka, KS and Deb and Mark Higgins of Loup City, NE; one sister and brother-in-law, Delores and Paul Renken of Amarillo, TX; six grandchildren; Mitchell Higgins, Hannah Schnacker, DJ Waggoner, Luke Schnacker, Joe Waggoner and Scott Waggoner and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and step-mother, Leola Waggoner.
