Donald D. Iske

June 28, 1931 — May 18, 2015

Donald “Don” D. Iske 83, of Loup City, NE died Monday, May 18, 2015 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Grand Island, NE.  Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 21 at the United Methodist Church in Loup City with the Reverend Jim Koontz officiating.  Military Honors will be provided by the Loup City American Legion Post #48.  Cremation will follow the service and burial will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City.  Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 20 at Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City.  Memorials are suggested to the Iske family or donor’s choice.

Donald D. Iske was born June 28, 1931 at Plattsmouth, NE to Maurice and Ethel (Decker) Stander.  He was raised by his adoptive parents Earl and Alice Iske. He grew up and attended school at Ashland, NE.  He graduated from Ashland High School in 1949.  He served in the Air Force during the Korean War, stationed in England from 1951 to 1954.  While there he met and married Beryl Dowsing.  They moved to Omaha, NE in 1954.  January, 1958 they moved to Loup City.  He was a heavy equipment operator, truck driver and farmer for various companies and people over the last 60 years.  He was a past Mayor for Loup City; Loup City volunteer fireman and a 57 year member of the Loup City American Legion Post #48.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years Beryl Iske of Loup City; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Amanda of Loup City; James and Nettie of Harrisburg, NE; daughters and son-in-law, Donna and Tom Peters and Sandi Nagorski both of Loup City; 16 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; brother, Maurice (Roberta) Stander; step-sisters, Rose (Bill) Kaderiet; sister-in-law, Susan Iske; step-sister-in-law, Diane Stander and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Elmer Iske; step-brother, Robert Stander; son-in-law, Don Nagorski; grandson, Shane Peters;  great grandson, Carter Eurek and adoptive parents Earl and Alice Iske.
