Earl “Bill” Hancock, 85 of Loup City, NE died Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at his home in Loup City. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 26, 2012 at the Loup City Community Building with Pastor Barbara Spangler officiating. Burial will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City with military honors by the Loup City American Legion Post #48. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, March 25, 2012 at Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City. Memorials are suggested to the Loup City Rescue Squad, Loup City Fire Department or donor’s choice.
Earl W. “Bill” Hancock was born September 19, 1926 at Loup City, NE to Earl S. and Blanche (Winkleman) Hancock. He grew up in Loup City and graduated from Loup City High School. Bill was inducted into the United States Army on December 21, 1944. He was stationed in the Philippines and Japan and served with the 389 th Field Artillery Battalion. He was honorably discharged on November 28, 1946. On December 14, 1947 he married Marion Bartunek. Bill lived in Loup City throughout his lifetime and served as a lineman and serviceman for Nebraska Public Power District for 39 years. He was also a car mechanic. He was a member of the Loup City American Legion Post #48, Loup City VFW, Loup City Volunteer Fire Department and was an EMT for the Loup City Rescue Squad.
Bill is survived by his wife, Marion of Loup City, NE; sons and daughters-in-law, Samuel W. and Karen of Fort Collins, CO; Donald E. and Connie of Peetz, CO; grandsons, Brian and Dillon Hancock; granddaughter, Aspen Hancock; sister and brother-in-law, Sharon A. and Russell Mann of Fort Collins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
