Edward D. Root, Sr., 85 of Loup City, NE died Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at Rose Lane Home in Loup City. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 4, 2021 at First Baptist Church in Loup City with Reverend Delmar Unruh officiating. Private family interment will be held in the Mason City Cemetery at Mason City, NE. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, December 3, 2021 at Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City. Edward Dewayne Root, Sr. was born December 23, 1935 at Arnold, NE to Loyd and Goldie (Oxford) Root. He grew up in the Arnold area and attended the Broken Bow school system. On June 30, 1960 he married Donna Mae Tondreau at Broken Bow. Seven children were born to this union; Edward Jr., Gary, Robert, Donald, Barbara, Mary and Allen. Ed worked construction for most of his life and was a member of the Baptist Church.

Ed is survived by his wife, Donna of Loup City, NE; children, Edward (Marijo) Root of Siloam Springs, AR; Robert (Debbie) Root of Lincoln, NE; Donald Root of Grand Island, NE; Barbara (Calvin) Fieldgrove of Loup City, NE; Mary (Jeremy) Bogart of Sedalia, MO; Allen (Jennifer) Root of Lincoln, NE; 13 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild and brothers, Jim and David Root both of Omaha, NE. Ed is preceded in death by his parents, Loyd and Goldie; son, Gary Root; granddaughter, Trinity Bogart; brother, William (Bill) Root and sister, Darlene Bivens
