Erma E. Sickels, 87 of Loup City, NE died Monday, August 30, 2010 at Jennie M. Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow, NE. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday, September 3, 2010 at First Baptist Church in Loup City, NE with Reverend Delmar Unruh officiating. Burial will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 2, 2010 at Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City, NE with the family greeting friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church, Sherman County Senior center or donor’s choice.
Erma E. Sickels was born August 19, 1923 at Mason City, NE to Philip Sheridan and Mona Merle (Davis) Stoddard. She attended Mason City grade school and high school and graduated with the class of 1940. She married Ellis Earl Sickels on April 29, 1943 at the First Baptist Church Parsonage in Loup City, NE. They lived 32 years south of Loup City in the Wiggle Creek area. Ellis was killed in a farm accident on May 15, 1975. Erma then moved to her present home in Loup City in 1976. Erma was a farm wife and later worked at Loup City Commission Company for about 20 years.
She volunteered at the Sherman County Senior Center until the present time. She received the Lord as her Savior in September of 1957 and was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Loup City and Ladies Missionary Group. She was also a member of the Wiggle Creek Club and Birthday Club. Her hobbies included quilting, embroidery work, growing flowers and listening to Husker football. She also enjoyed attending her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s activities. Mom’s love for the Lord and her family were her greatest joys in life. She was concerned and cared for many, was a good listener and friend and had a kind word for all.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Sheryl and David Randolph of Fairfield, CA; Phyllis and Don Pearson of Kearney, MO; Linda and Max Boersen of Grand Island, NE; Patricia and Paul Hammond of Broken Bow, NE; LuAnn and Gene Burns of Mason City, NE; 17 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren; sister, Arlene Cliffton of Omaha, NE; sister-in-laws, Maxine Sickels of Pasco, WA and Jean and husband, Don Oldis of Costa Mesa, CA.
She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, Philip Wade Stoddard and great grandson, Keyan Wayne Unick.
