Evangeline “Van” Damratowski 87 of Kearney, NE formerly of Loup City, NE died Thursday, December 20, 2012 at Mt. Carmel Home in Kearney. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church in Loup City with Father Martin Egging officiating. Burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City. Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church with a Vigil Service held at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Damratowski family or donor’s choice.
Evangeline Frances (Placek) Damratowski was born May 28, 1925 at Loup City, NE to Stephen and Helen (Kraus) Placek. She grew up and attended school in Loup City. On July 28, 1945 she married George C. Damratowski. She lived in Loup City all of her life until moving in 2006 to Wel-Life in Kearney and in 2010 moving to Mt. Carmel Home in Kearney. Throughout her life she was a school teacher and worked as a secretary for an insurance agency. She was a member of St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church, Sodality Rosary and Loup City American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include her son, Allen Damratowski of Kearney; daughters, Georgia Mohr of Sun City West, AZ; Paulette and husband, Steve Slominski of Kearney, NE; Shelly and husband, Skip Mason of Kearney, NE; five grandchildren, Brian Slominski, Brad Slominski, Scott Damratowski, Laura Mason and Alexis Mason; nine great grandchildren, Evan, Nolan and Aidan Slominski, Tatum and TaRee Mason, Gavin Spillman, Claire, Quinn and Jack Damratowski; sister, Magdalene and husband Robert Palu of Bloomfield, NE, sister-in-law, Rita and husband, Duane Kubicek of Grand Island, NE.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George; brothers, Raymond and Edward Placek and son-in-law, Stan Mohr.
