Evelyn A. Kalkowski 90 of Loup City, NE died Thursday, January 20, 2011 at Rose Lane Home in Loup City. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 24, 2011 at St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church in Loup City with Father Martin Egging officiating. Burial will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, January 23, 2011 at St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church with a Vigil Service held at 6:00 p.m. at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Kalkowski family or donor’s choice.
Evelyn Agnes (Ziola) Kalkowski was born July 30, 1920 at Loup City, NE to Michael and Pearl (Obrys) Ziola. She grew up in the Loup City area and graduated from Loup City High School. On November 1, 1941 she married Leonard Kalkowski in Loup City. Three boys and three girls were born to this union. Evelyn and Leonard ran the meat packing plants in Loup City and Ashton for several years, Evelyn also worked as a cashier for IGA and later Jerry’s supermarket. She was a member of St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church and Altar Society, the Polish Choir and quilting circle. Evelyn enjoyed crocheting, knitting, reading, gardening, playing bingo and watching her favorite tv shows.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Jeannie Kalkowski of Phoenix, AZ; Michael and Rita Kalkowski of Omaha, NE; Richard and Julie Kalkowski of Wenatchee, WA; daughters and sons-in-law, Patty and Jack Henry of Boise, ID, Diane Cordell of Austin, TX, Paula and Richard Jenkins of Sulphur Springs, TX; fourteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; brother, Archie Ziola of Columbus, NE. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister, Blanche Blichman.
