Florence K (Landon) Landon

Florence Landon, 85 of Loup City, NE died Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at Rose Lane Home in Loup City. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 19, 2015 at the Loup City Community Center in Loup City with Reverend Delmar Unruh officiating.  Burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City.  Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, January 18 at Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City.  Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church in Loup City or donor's choice.

Florence K. Landon was born February 13, 1929 on the family farm in Sherman County near Arcadia, NE to Leslie and Pearl (Leininger) Landon.  She graduated from Arcadia High School in 1947.  She began her teaching career in 1947.  In 1960, she began teaching sixth grade in Loup City Public Schools.  Florence received her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of Nebraska on August 4, 1961 at the same time her three sisters (Dorothy, Alta and Erma) did.  All four taught in area schools for more than 40 years each.  At her retirement in 1989, she had taught 1250 students.  She kept the name, year and often pictures of each of those students.  Florence was an active member of First Baptist Church in Loup City for over 50 years, and has served the church as Sunday School secretary, treasurer and teacher.  She also assisted with Vacation Bible School for a number of summers.

Florence is survived by her twin siblings; brother Don and wife Bette Landon of Arcadia, NE and Dorothy Landon of Loup City, NE.  She is preceded in death by her two sisters, Erma and Alta Landon.
