Gary Joe “Shorty” Alexander, 47 of Loup City died Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln, NE. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 15, 2010 at Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City, NE with Darrell Holzinger officiating. Cremation will take place following the service. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 12, 2010 at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Alexander family or donor’s choice.
Gary Joe Alexander was born May 17, 1962 in Loup City, NE to Calvin Sr. and Barbara (Cochran) Alexander. He attended school in Loup City starting with kindergarten and graduating in 1980. He entered the U.S. Marine Corp in January of 1981. He completed his basic training at Ft. Knox, KY and was then stationed at Camp Schwab in Okinawa, Japan till April of 1984. After returning from the marines in 1984 he moved to Osceola, NE. He was united in marriage on April 9, 1985 to Connie Girard. To this union three children were born; Danny Joe, Nicole Marie and Anthony Calvin.
Gary was an avid fisherman and enjoyed working outside with iron and metals and taking his best friend and faithful companion, Tony the dog to the river.
Gary is survived by his son and fiancé, Daniel Joseph Alexander and Jessica ? of Osceola, NE; daughter and son-in-law, Nicole Marie and Benito Rodriguez of Loup City, NE; son, Anthony Calvin Alexander of Osceola, NE; twin daughters, Alisha Ann Dowling of Lincoln, NE and Shanaye Marie Dowling of Osceola, NE; mother, Barbara Alexander of Loup City, NE; brothers, Troy Alexander of Hickman, NE; David Moore of Loup City, NE; sisters and brothers-in-law, Joyce Toczek of LaJunta, CO; Joleen and Bryan Kienke of Springview, NE; Cathy and Rick Glendy of Loup City, NE; grandmother, Elva Alexander of Holdridge, NE and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles who loved him dearly.
Gary was preceded in death by his father, Calvin Alexander, Sr.; brother, Calvin (Butch) Alexander Jr.; grandparents, Lee and Mary Cochran and Maxwell Alexander.
