Jack Charlton, 89 of Lincoln, NE formerly of Loup City, NE died Sunday, July 15, 2012 at his home in Lincoln. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 21, 2012 at the United Methodist Church in Loup City, NE with the Reverend Russell Barelmann officiating. No visitation. Cremation has been held. A private graveside service will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Loup City American Legion Post #48 or Salvation Army.
Jack Albert Charlton was born December 28, 1922 at Whittier, CA to Dr. Albert T. and Hazel (Beck) Charlton. He grew up and attended school in Whittier and then continued on to Whittier College and California Politechnic (CalPoly) at San Luis Obisbo, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1942 through 1945. On October 23, 1947 he married Ellen Marie Amick.
Jack and Ellen farmed north of Loup City. He also taught Veterans' Agriculture in Loup City for 15 years. He retired from farming in 1987 and Jack and Ellen enjoyed camping in their retirement. They moved from the farm into Loup City in 2007. In 2012 they moved to Lincoln. Jack was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Loup City, the Mason’s, OES and the Loup City American Legion Post #48.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen, of Lincoln, NE; son and daughter-in-law, Bruce R. and Colleen Charlton of Coulterville, CA; daughters and son-in-law, Diana Lynn Zetterman of Lincoln, NE; Paula Marie and Ron Johnson of Bushnell, NE; Wendy Charlton of Lincoln, NE; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; and sister, Nancy Sedgwick, of Ponte Verdra, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Jill Ellen; and brothers, Robert and Richard Charlton.
