Jean A. Wheeler, 69 of Loup City, Nebraska died Thursday, July 31, 2025 at Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney, Nebraska. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 4, 2025 at St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church in Loup City, Nebraska. Father Richard Piontkowski will celebrate the mass. Burial will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, August 3 at St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church with a Rosary to follow at 6:00 p.m. at the church. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation or donor’s choice. Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City is in charge of arrangements. Jean A. (Schachta) Wheeler was born August 2, 1955 in Loup City to Isadore and Nellie (Spotanski) Schachta. She grew up on a farm north of Loup City and then later moved to town. She attended Ashton Catholic and Loup City Public Schools where she earned her high school diploma.
On September 30, 1972, she married Loren (Allen) Wheeler in Ashton. Four children were born to this marriage. She and Allen lived on a farm East of Loup City and in 1985 they moved to Holdrege. They later retired back to the farm in Loup City. She was an in-home daycare provider, after which she cared for individuals at Mosaic in Axtell for over 25 years. She achieved her Med Aide License and the Autism Certificate credential. She was an exemplary employee earning role model of the month multiple times. Her passion was caring for and spending time with young children.
She was a member of St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church in Loup City and All Saints Catholic Church in Holdrege. She enjoyed baking and sharing Christmas cookies, gardening, visiting with friends and family, Husker football and following her grandchildren’s sports activities.
Survivors include her husband, Allen of Loup City, Nebraska; daughters, Lorey Wheeler and husband, Matt Fritz of Lincoln, Nebraska; Angie and husband, Darin Keezer of Chandler, Arizona; Lindsey Wheeler of Aurora, Nebraska; son, Jay and wife, Danielle Wheeler of Pine Island, Minnesota; grandchildren, Alex Wheeler; Hailey and Sydney Keezer and Easton, Tristan and Maxson Wheeler; four brothers, Tom and his wife, Marilyn Schachta of Kearney, Nebraska; Don Schachta of Grand Island, Nebraska; Ray and his wife, Linda Schachta of Ashton, Nebraska and Mike and his wife, Roseann Schachta of Grand Island, Nebraska.
She was proceeded in death by her parents Isadore and Nellie.
