James J. “Jake” Jakob, 69 of Loup City, NE died Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island, NE. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 13, 2010 at St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church in Loup City with Father Martin Egging officiating. Burial will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City with military honors by the Loup City American Legion Post #48. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 12, 2010 at St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church with a Vigil Service held at 7:00 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Loup City EMT’s, Loup City Fire Department or Jakob family.
James Jerome “Jake” Jakob was born June 21, 1941 at Loup City, NE to Walter “Bun” and Elizabeth “Billie” (Guzinski) Jakob. He grew up and attended school in Loup City graduating from Loup City High School in 1959. He entered the US Navy May 15, 1959 and served on the USS Eversole and was discharged on May 14, 1965. On November 30, 1963 he married Renee P. Eurek at St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church in Loup City. He lived in Loup City throughout his life and worked at many different construction companies and also worked for the State of NE, Kowalski Feeders in Loup City and Trotter Elevator in Loup City. He was a member of St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church; the Loup City American Legion for 31 years; Loup City VFW for 30 years and Loup City Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years.
He is survived by his wife, Renee Jakob of Loup City, NE; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dixie and Alfred Placek of Omaha, NE; Virgie and Jerry Eurek of Fremont, NE; Judy Kaminski of St. Paul, NE and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one nephew, Rob Kuszak who was like a son to him.
