Louis A. Kusek

August 15, 1919 — April 24, 2011

Louis A. Kusek, 91 of Loup City, NE died Sunday, April 24, 2011 at the VA Medical Center in Omaha, NE. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 28, 2011 at St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church in Loup City with Father Martin Egging officiating. Burial will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City with military honors by the Loup City American Legion Post #48. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2011 at St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church with a Vigil Service and Knights of Columbus Rosary to be held at 6:00 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the donor’s choice.

Louis Aloysius Kusek was born August 15, 1919 near Clear Creek, NE to Peter and Catherine (Iwan) Kusek. He grew up in the Clear Creek area and attended the Lone Elm grade school through the 8 th grade. He did general labor for people in Colorado and Nebraska until he was drafted on February 20, 1942. He served in the Aviation Army Engineer Battalion in England and helped build the first American Airbase in England. He was discharged from the Army on December 18, 1943. On May 31, 1949 he married Marie Schroll at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ravenna. He farmed in the Loup City, Arcadia and Ravenna area for most of his life. He retired to Loup City in 1984. He was a member of St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Loup City American Legion Post #48, V.F.W. and D.A.V.

He is survived by his wife, Marie of Loup City; sons and daughter-in-law, Donald Kusek of Omaha, NE and Joseph and Kathy Kusek of Overland Park, KS; three grandchildren, Chris and wife, Chelsey, Corey and Kevin; sister-in-law, Mary Kusek of Grand Island, NE and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Adolph, Vincent, Paul and Raymond and sisters, Rose Kuta and Theresa Smedra.
