Matthew Christian McAlexander, 19, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2011. He was born November 16, 1991 in Smithfield, NC. Matthew grew up in Kernersville, and graduated from East Forsyth High School in June 2010. He was pursuing a degree in Fire Science/Criminal Justice at Forsyth Technical Community College. He was a certified EMT through the state of North Carolina and was an active Volunteer Firefighter/EMT with Piney Grove Fire & Rescue Station 32 in Kernersville. Matthew was also active in the youth group of Oaklawn Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Joshua Rowley; and maternal grandfather, James Johnson.
Matthew is survived by his mother and step-father, Lori and Jeremy Rowley of Kernersville and his father, James McAlexander of Pfafftown; two sisters, MaryAnne and Kaitlyn Rowley, both of Kernersville; a brother, Jordan McAlexander of Pfafftown; maternal grandmother, Pearl Johnson of Kernersville; paternal grandparents, Charles and Lucy McAlexander of Pfafftown; and his step-grandmother, Claudine Rowley, of Lincoln, NE
A Funeral Service will be conducted at 10:00 am Monday, July 11, 2011 at First Christian Church in Kernersville with Dr. Pete Kunkle and Pastor Todd Haley officiating. Matthew will be laid to rest beside his brother, Joshua in Eastlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 4-7:00 pm Sunday, July 10, 2011 at the church. Matthew is joined in Heaven with his brother, Joshua. Matthew and Joshua lost their lives in the same boating incident at Sherman Reservoir in Sherman Co., NE.
