Phyllis E. Baltz, 84 of Loup City, Nebraska died peacefully Sunday, November 3, 2024 at the Central Nebraska Veterans Home in Kearney, NE surrounded by her family. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 13, 2024 at St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church in Loup City. Father Richard Piontkowski will celebrate the mass. Burial will follow lunch and be held at the Mason City Cemetery at Mason City, NE. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Memorials are suggested to the Loup City Library, Mason City Cemetery or donor’s choice.
Phyllis was born on April 30, 1940 near Mason City, NE to James and Olive (Crosley) Schall. She attended Basin School and graduated from Mason City High School in 1957. In 1959, she married Dennis Moore. They made their home near Mason City and had four children, Tom, James, Diana, and Paul. They later moved to Ansley, NE. In 1976, Phyllis married Dale Baltz, becoming stepmother to daughters, Pam, Kim, and Patti. They lived and farmed south of Loup City, NE. In 1978, they had another daughter, Julie.
Phyllis spent many years of her life doing the hard work of farming and taking care of her family, as well as filling various roles for Ansley Public Schools, Loup City Public Schools, and Bullet Weights in Loup City. Phyllis had many hobbies throughout her lifetime. She was a member of extension and garden clubs which gave her cherished friendships and memories. She was an avid gardener of both flowers and vegetables with an unmatched green thumb. Sewing was another of her many talents, cultivated by making many quilts and clothing throughout the years. Her love of music was evident when she so often listened to her favorite 1950s tunes and would occasionally play a little bit on her guitar or accordion. She played volleyball during high school and continued to love the sport throughout her life, particularly watching and cheering on the Husker volleyball team. Phyllis’s faith was important to her and she was most recently a member of St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church in Loup City. She was kind, generous, funny, a bit mischievous, and an incredible wife, mom, and friend.
She is survived by her husband, Dale; sons, Thomas Moore and wife Kathy, James Moore and wife Judy; daughters, Diana Meiergerd and husband James, Julie Wilbeck and husband Christian, Pamela Moore, Kimberly Bals, Patrice Wheeler and husband Thomas; grandchildren, Molly Melcher and husband Robb, Grant Meiergerd, Katie Meiergerd, Matthew Moore and wife Callie, Cameron Moore and wife Anna, Kalin Adams and wife Lexi, Megan Suarez and husband Alec, Valerie Scharton and husband David, Michael Moore and wife Callie, Ian Wheeler and wife Angela, Owen Wilbeck, Everett Wilbeck, and Eli Wilbeck; her great-grandchildren Karsen Moore, Natalie Moore, Haven Wheeler, Wren Wheeler, and Liam Wheeler; her brother, Lyle Schall and wife Kay, her sisters-in-law, Karen (Eldon) Schall and Sandy (Robert) Schall, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Olive Schall; son, Paul Moore; son-in-law, Donald Moore; great-granddaughter, Kit Moore; and her siblings Larry Schall, Kenneth Schall, Dale Schall, Dorothy Adams, Norman Schall, Robert Schall, and Eldon Schall.
