Ruth Obermiller, 107 of Loup City, NE died Monday, January 06, 2014 at Rose Lane Home in Loup City, NE. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 10, 2014 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Loup City with Reverend Shawn Kitzing officiating. Burial will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 9 at the church. Memorials are suggested to the American Legion Auxiliary Scholarship Fund or donor’s choice.
Anna Ruth Sundstrom was born June 13, 1906 to August and Ida (Hanisch) Sundstrom, on a farmstead north of Loup City. Ruth graduated from high school in 1923. She attended Kearney Normal Training College and taught in several grade schools in Sherman County. She married George Obermiller on January 20, 1930. They lived on a farm north of Loup City and south of Loup City. They built their home southwest of Loup City in 1951. Ruth worked in the Loup City Creamery from 1928 to 1966. She spent many late Saturday nights writing checks for farmers for eggs and cream. They were blessed with a son, Richard. Richard married Kathleen Guhn and they blessed her with a grandson, Russell. Ruth enjoyed baking and canning. She was famous for her delicious cinnamon rolls. She would bake them every Saturday morning for the corn grinding crew and for many other functions. She always could call a person by their correct name and never forgot a name. She was a member of the Extention Club, Birthday Club and Presbyterian Women’s Group. She was a member of the Eastern Star and in 1975 received a 50 year membership pin, and in 2000 she was honored for her 75 years of membership. She was also awarded the Order of the Eastern Star Imhoff Award which recognized her as the oldest Eastern star member in the Rose Croix Chapter, No. 298 in Ravenna, NE. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 45 years and in 2006 was honored by her Admiralship in the Nebraska Navy. She was a championship trivia player and enjoys visiting with people.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Kathleen Obermiller of Loup City, NE and grandson, Russell Obermiller of Loup City. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, George.
