Susan (Sims) Iske

Susan Iske, 93, of Apache Junction, AZ, formerly of Loup City, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, August 15,2024. Celebration of Life services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 12, 2024 at the United Methodist Church in Loup City with Reverend Spenser Johnson officiating. Burial will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 12 at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Iske family for later designation.

Susan Iske, daughter of Jesse and Maude (VanAllen) Sims was born May 19, 1931 in Ashland, NE.  She lived with her family in Ashland, but went to spend 2 years in Wray CO with her Aunt Juanita and Uncle Art. She attended Ashland Public Schools and Wray Public Schools. Susan returned to Ashland to finish school, graduating in 1948. She worked at the Farmers Merchants Bank during her senior year and following graduation.

On December 2, 1949, she married Elmer L. Iske. To this union 3 children were born: Connie, Patty, and Elmer, Jr. Elmer and Susan farmed near Ashland until 1953 and then moved to Loup City where they farmed west of town. In 1962, the couple moved to town and Elmer went to work for the SCS and Susan worked for the school system as a secretary for a few years.  Susan started working for the Sherman County Treasurer’s Office and was the Sherman County Deputy Treasurer for 37 years.

Elmer Iske died on April 21, 1994.

Susan was a member of the Loup City United Methodist Church and the Loup City American Legion Auxiliary Post #48. She enjoyed playing the piano/organ, playing bridge, fishing, and reading.  Her family, church and playing bridge were very important to her.

Susan is survived by her 3 children; Connie (Hubert) Adams of Apache Junction, AZ; Patty Morgan of Lincoln, NE; Elmer Iske, Jr. (Donna Moores) of Loup City, NE; 3 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren as well as several step grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer; 6 brothers, Dale (Mildred) Sims of  Grass Valley, CA; Jerry (Rosie) Sims of Fremont, NE; Donnie (Loraine) Sims of Ashland, NE; Robert (Margaret) Sims of LaCentral, CA; Frank Sims of Alexandria, VA and baby, Richard Sims; 6 sisters, Maxine (Floyd) Barton of Arlington NE; Vivian (Harry) Hagstrom of Council Bluffs, IA; Dorothy (Henry) Post of Omaha, NE; Betty (Emil) Kulhanek of Ashland, NE; Jessie Sims of Loup City NE and baby, Shari Sims.
