Byron Burns Obituary

     Byron Burns, 65 of Litchfield, NE died Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at his home in Litchfield after a 5 year battle with cancer surrounded by his loving family. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2019 at St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church in Loup City. Father Richard L. Piontkowski will celebrate the mass. Interment will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, June 14 at the church with a Knights of Columbus Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. at the church. Memorials are suggested to Litchfield Fire Department, St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church or The International Multiple Myeloma Foundation.

     Byron Glen Burns was born November 7,1953 at Broken Bow, NE to Robert and Vivian (Fox) Burns. They lived northeast of Mason City. He attended the Mason City School till the 8th grade and then graduated from high school from Loup City. He was active in 4-H and sports. He married Jean Kwiatkowski on November 30, 1974 at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Hazard. Byron and Jean lived in Mason City and then moved east of Litchfield in 1980. Byron worked at the ordinance plant in Grand Island, Lovitt Angus Ranch, Eatons and farmed from 1979 till the time of his death. His wife, children, and grandchildren were his greatest love. His family and friends were very important to him. Byron always enjoyed his cattle and being in the fields. He loved working with his hands; making improvements to the farm.  He was a member of St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus for 25 years, served on the Litchfield Rural Fire Board since 1989, Sherman County Foundation Board, and was a volunteer fireman and EMT in Mason City.

     Byron is survived by his wife, Jean of Litchfield, NE; sons, Nicholas Burns and partner, Zach Hickman of Dallas, TX; Scott Burns and wife, Ellie of Rochester, MI; daughter, Michelle and husband, Adam Nagorski of Grand Island; three grandchildren; Sophia Burns, Cameron and Rexalynn Nagorski; mother, Vivian Burns of Mason City, NE;  brothers Steve and wife, Lydia of Salida, CO; Mark of Mason City, NE; sisters, Theodocia (Teddy) Fitch of Urbandale, IA; Kim and husband, Rod Burns of Clovis, CA. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert (Jeff); father-in-law and mother-in-law, Henry and Hattie Kwiatkowski and grandparents.
