Margaret (Guthery) Erdmann was born June 18, 1918, in Broken Bow, NE to Philip Earhart and Eveline (Duckers) Guthery. She grew up and attended school in Broken Bow. On August 12, 1940 she married Arthur B. Erdmann in Kearney, NE. They lived in Norfolk, NE from 1940 until 1946 when they moved to Loup City, NE. Margaret and her husband owned and operated the Gambles Store in Loup City from 1946 to 1969, including the years following his death. She was a very independent woman.

Margaret was a member of the Presbyterian Church and was the church secretary/treasurer for a number of years. Her faith was very important to her.  She served on the Westside Park Board and contributed to various civic organizations. After retirement, Margaret devoted much of her time in volunteer work, focusing on helping elderly friends and providing transportation and companionship. In 1973 she received the Ak-Sar-Ben “Good Neighbor” award, and recognition from the Loup City Chamber of Commerce, with the “Key People” award. Earlier this year, she celebrated 80-year membership in the PEO Sisterhood.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur; brother, Philip Guthery; half-brother, George Guthery; half-sisters, Sybil Hanson and Mabel Tracy. She is survived by her great nephew, John (Diane) Guthery of Lincoln, NE; great-great niece, Lisa (Jason) Guthery-Morledge of Grand Island, NE and their children, Kyle, Kendal and Lauren; and her special friend Catherine Baillie of Loup City. Margaret had no children of her own, but was fond of saying she had over 50 adopted “kids” and loved each one of them.

Margaret has looked forward to spending eternal life with Jesus, her Lord and Savior, whom she loved and served many years.
