Michael F. Janulewicz 69 of Loup City, NE died Sunday, February 13, 2022 at his home in Loup City. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 17, 2022 at St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church in Loup City. Father Richard Piontkowski will celebrate the mass. Interment will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Memorials are suggested to the Janulewicz family or donor’s choice. Michael was born May 4, 1952, in Loup City, the son of Ben and Bertha (Bukowski) Janulewicz. He grew up in the Loup City area and graduated from Loup City High School in 1970. He worked in state and county law enforcement in northeast Nebraska for 30 years.
In 1972, he was accepted as a police officer for the Loup City Police Department and remained employed with that organization through 1974. He then was accepted to the Nebraska State Patrol in 1974 and then in 1977 was promoted to the Nebraska State Patrol Undercover Division, where he held this position till 1980.
In 1982, he became a police officer for the City of Madison. He held this position for two years, then ran for Stanton County Sheriff and won, holding that position until 1986. After that Michael served as Nebraska Public Service Commission investigator until 1996.
In 1998, Michael changed professions and was self-employed as a real estate agent with Fisher Realty, and in 2001 received the Nebraska Realtors Association, NBOR Realtor of the Year, and three years in a row for the Million Dollar Producer Club.
It was his dream to be Sheriff of Sherman County. In 2005, Michael returned to Loup City and served as Sherman County Sheriff from 2006 to 2017, proudly retiring in 2017.
Survivors include one sister, Kathy Headlee of Grand Island; and a brother and sister-in-law, Timothy and Trudy Janulewicz of Grand Island, Mr. Janulewicz also leaves behind one niece, Robbie (Troy) Fox of Hampton, and two nephews, Danny (Kerri) Patterson of Loup City and Joshua Janulewicz of Grand Island; and five great-nieces and nephew.
He was preceded in death by both his parents and his wife, Linda.
