     Barbara Ann John 83 of Grand Island, NE formerly of Loup City, NE died Monday, August 22, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Society-Grand Island Village in Grand Island, NE. Cremation has been held. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 27, 2016 at St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church in Loup City, NE with Father Richard Piontkowski officiating. Burial will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, August 26 at St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church with a 7:00 p.m. Vigil Service at the church. Memorials are suggested to the John family or donor’s choice. 

     Barbara Ann (Mason) John was born October 27, 1932 at Arcadia, NE to Ben W. and Esther G. (Paine) Mason. She grew up and attended school at Arcadia, NE and graduated from Arcadia High School. She was the first person in 1949 from Arcadia to go to Girl’s State in Lincoln, NE.  On May 1, 1954 she married Edward W. John at St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church in Loup City. They moved around Nebraska, Virginia, Connecticut, Utah and Colorado before retiring to Loup City, NE in 1981. Throughout her lifetime she was a housewife, teacher’s aide for the mentally handicapped, administrative secretary for the Welfare Department, worked for AARP and for Martin Marietta Aerospace. After retirement they spent winters in Mesa, AZ where she volunteered for the Mesa Hospital. She also volunteered at CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island, NE. She enjoyed camping, quilting, refinishing furniture, gardening and making “N” Nebraska chairs. She loved to watch Nebraska Cornhusker football, volleyball and basketball. She is a member of St. Josaphat’s Catholic Church in Loup City.

     She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, William P. and Cynthia John of Salt Lake City, UT; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa L. and Brad Green of Grand Island, NE; sons and daughters-in-law,  David W and Carol John of Salt Lake City, UT; Daniel R. and Jacquie John of Charlotte, NC; Joseph M. and Kay John of Omaha, NE; Sisters, Mary Saum and husband, Burnell of Hamilton, MT; Carol Mason of Sidney, NE; thirteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill on March 29, 2000; parents; brother, John A. Mason and sister, Virginia Flower.
