Donald “Don” D. Landon, 94 of Loup City, NE died Sunday, August 20, 2017 at Rose Lane Home in Loup City. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 26, 2017 at the First Baptist Church in Loup City, NE with Pastor Delmar Unruh officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Loup City American Legion Post #48. Burial will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery in Loup City. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, August 25 at Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City. Memorials are suggested to the Loup City American Legion or donor’s choice. Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City is in charge of arrangements.
Donald “Don” D. Landon was born February 13, 1923 in Sherman County, Nebraska to Leslie and Pearl (Leininger) Landon. He attended country school in rural Sherman County and graduated from Arcadia High School in 1941. He joined the U.S. Army February 23, 1945 and was stationed at Fort Bliss, TX until he was honorable discharged February 24, 1946. Don and Bette (Jensen) were married June 2, 1948 at the First Baptist Church in Loup City, NE. He was a longtime member at First Baptist, and was passionate about his faith in Christ.
Don and Bette lived on the Landon family farm in rural Sherman County. He raised hogs and emus, and his pride and joy was growing watermelons. Don and Bette hosted several foreign exchange students in their home, and developed life-long relationships with these special “adopted children”.
Don is survived by his wife, Bette of Loup City, NE; sister-in-law, Carol and husband Ron Kuhn of Loup City, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Erma Landon, Alta Landon, Dorothy Landon, and Florence Landon; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Janet Mostek.
